There’s no stopping “Hallyu” (romanized spelling: han-ryu) or the Korean Wave. In fact, the Korean government is building a cultural center ala-Hollywood called “Hallyu-wood” 😀 They’re targeting a 2008 opening in time for the Beijing Olympics. The idea is to make Korea the hub of entertainment in Asia.
Hallyu-wood will be constructed in Ilsan, Goyang City (where the Lake Park and Kintex are located). An area of 300,000 pyeong (1 pyeong=3.3 square meters) will be allocated for this ambitious project. Among the facilities that will be set up are a service apartment, amusement park, Star Village (actors’ residence), Little Asia (to feature Japanese, Chinese and southeast Asian culture), Hallyu Shopping Center, Hallyu Star Street, Game World and of course studios. In short, this will be a one-stop tourism center for fans of Korean entertainment.
It’s a good thing that they are working on this project fast, while the Korean Wave is still big in most parts of Asia. Still, we’ll have to see in 2008.
